The Westminster London, Curio Collection by Hilton

About Accommodation Reviews: Over many years I’ve stayed at countless lodgings and reviewed hundreds. Reviews on this site are based on the range and quality of facilities, helpfulness of staff, value for money, cleanliness, welcome received and overall experience. Scores also reflect convenience (for example, a great overnight stop at a decent hotel by a motorway might score similarly to a boutique hotel elsewhere). Scores are out of 5 (5=Excellent, 4=Very Good, 3=Good, 2=Average, 1=Poor). I only post reviews here for accommodation I would definitely return to (3 + stars).

I stayed at The Westminster London, Curio Collection by Hilton hotel recently for a conference event. It is located right in the heart of Westminster just a stone’s throw from the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey and is an ideal base for anyone wanting to explore this historic part of London and the country’s iconic sites.

Despite being right in the heart of Westminster the area immediately around the hotel is peaceful and quiet. It is hard to believe the hubbub of the city is just a short distance away. Step out of the lobby into the street and within just a few minutes’ walk you can reach the Abbey, Parliament Square and Westminster Bridge.

Just a short distance further is Number 10, Trafalgar Square, Horse Guards Parade and The Mall, while across the river there is the London Eye. At Parliament Square catch the underground to anywhere else in the city. It really is the ideal hotel for exploring the iconic parts of London.

The rooms are well-equipped and very comfortable. My room had a small fridge and double bed with large wall-mounted television. There was also a sitting and writing area. The hotel has a fitness centre, a pleasant and spacious lobby, business facilities and even a bowling alley with bar.

As part of the conference event we ate in one of the function rooms and the food was very good and well-presented. There is an excellent buffet breakfast as well a pleasant lounge/bar to have drinks and snacks if you don’t want to leave the hotel. That said there are various restaurants catering to all tastes within several hundred yards from the hotel.

There is a some underground parking but note that space is limited and it is not cheap (as anywhere in central London). Also be aware that driving in London now requires both the daily ULEZ (Ultra-Low Emission Zone) and Congestion charges which, together with the parking fee, is very expensive. Still, if you come by train the hotel is the ideal base to be at the centre of it all and you are unlikely to need a car. Taxis are far more convenient in this location, given the short distances between sites.

My accommodation was paid for during my event but I do know the rooms are not cheap. But bear in mind this is an upmarket hotel with the best possible location and well worth splurging out if really look to get in all the sightseeing of the main sites during a brief two or three day stay. Moreover, shop around for the best price to stay at the hotel an note that the chain offers a price match guarantee.
